In August we looked at the different types of Common Office Bacteria, ways to prevent it and of course a list of Steiner solutions. As we near World Environmental Health Day, 26 September 2017, we get you up to speed and ready for the celebrations. We let you in on what the theme is this year and how you can get involved.
World Environmental Health Day – 2017 Theme
The theme this year is “Indoor & Outdoor Air Quality” and a lot of us are familiar with how the office can get if there is no proper air quality system in the workplace. A variety of our products like the Oxy Air Care Dispenser address this issue, keeping our environment healthy.
According to the International Federation of Environmental Health, the theme was chosen based on the statement made by the Director General of the organisation, Margaret Chan earlier this year. Miss Chan launched a global campaign to combat air pollution. In her campaign, she stresses how air pollution is one of the major public health issues of this generation.
The Effects of Poor Air Quality in the Office
Oxygen is our very life source so it vital that our workspaces, where we spend most of our time, have tip-top air quality. If this is not the case, there are a number of ways that this can have a negative effect on your employees’ health and ultimately productivity.
Severe Health Effects
There are a number of illnesses that are linked to poor indoor air quality some of them include:
- Hearing loss
- Conjunctival irritation
- Rapid heartbeat which can lead to short breath
- Lethargy and nausea
- Headaches and dizziness
Respiratory Health Issues
Without a doubt, if the office does not have proper air solutions in place, respiratory health will be affected one or another. Here are some of the health issues you and your employees may be faced with:
- Coughing
- Worsening asthma
- Lung disease
- Nosebleeds
- Nasal congestion
Some of the ways to prevent this from happening are getting Steiner’s Deep Cleaning for your office bathroom.
Getting Involved
Whatever it is that you may be doing to celebrate World Environmental Health Day, whether it is hanging out in the outdoors with your mates, a workshop or an environmentally friendly festival or party, you can share it on the IFEH website by getting in touch with them here: webmaster@ifeh.org It does not matter how big or small you think the event is, getting as many people aware and ultimately involved is what matters most.
