We are finally emerging from what was a fairly mild South African winter. But we are not the only ones looking forward to rising temperatures and more sunshine. Summer is a time for a lot of things, but arguably the one thing that nobody looks forward to is the influx of pests in homes and workplaces all over the country.
Yes, we have a diverse collection of bugs, rodents and insects here in South Africa and that’s all fine and well when we don’t have to share our living and working spaces with them. As the temperatures rise, however, the right pest control solutions become a necessity for keeping them outside of our own spaces.
Pests tend to be far less active in the cold months, giving us relief from lines of ants and the incessant nightly buzzing of mosquitoes. Summer, due to more rainfall and heat also provide them with an abundance of food-sources, which definitely galvanises them to become more active.
However, the presence of pests poses more of a risk than just creeping out those in your workplace, they can carry a number of risks associated with health complications.
They are often the culprit of allergies, infections and other unwanted bacteria such as E. coli or salmonella. Then of course, ticks and fleas can carry diseases such as Lyme disease, though admittedly these aren’t generally found in places with high concentrations of people.
Where food sources are abundant, pests such as rats, mice or roaches can also be found contaminating them.
Because of all of this, now is the time for your business to start paying closer attention to your efforts to keep these pests in line, out of site, and far away from your business premises.
