Sorting Out Those Pests

Steiner Pests, Dead Cockroach

10 September 2015

The good news is, winter is done – say hello to sunny skies, shorts and slops, braais, etc. The bad news is – pests such as cockroaches and flies will make their presence felt, a lot more now than in the winter. Yes, they can survive in virtually any type of weather but they thrive a lot more in warmer temperatures. It’s almost as if, when the weather starts to get warmer, they pre-empt a notion to make your home or office their personal buffet! That said, the correct measures should be taken to address this problem if you are experiencing an infestation.

You may think that to get rid of pests is a straight forward process as all you have to do is get the right pest fighting product and the problem is solved. Simple, right? Well not really… there are a few other factors to consider.

If you are going to carry out an effective job, you will require the correct amount of experience and knowledge to keep the place in question, pest-free. Pesticides can be dangerous and if you do not utilise them in the correct manner, the consequences can be disastrous.

In light of this, it is definitely better to utilise a more experienced pest-control company that specialises in Integrated Pest Management (IPM). IPM refers to the coordinated use of pest and environmental information along with available pest control methods, including cultural, biological, genetic and chemical methods, to prevent unacceptable levels of pest damage by the most economical means and with the least possible hazard to people, property, and the environment.

When we speak of ‘integrated’, we refer to exploring every possible feasible option or even a combination of those options in order to come up with a viable solution that is going to prove to be most effective in solving the infestation problem.

If you have a pest problem, it needs to be nipped in the bud as soon as possible to ensure that it does not spiral out of control. Pests are a serious issue and certainly nothing to be sneezed at. They damage property and goods, they are unhygienic to the nth degree as they often can transmit disease and the list goes on an on. They even create provision for a detestable environment that is not pleasant to be in. If you have a pest problem at the office, it can hinder your company reputation immensely.

That said, if you can see a pest problem looming, do not wait until the eleventh hour to seek a solution. There has been a significant boom in pest management over the past years. Many companies cannot operate without the services of a good IPM company. Chat to the experts at Bidvest Steiner, they will formulate the perfect plan to keep your space pest-free.
