You have been suddenly overwhelmed by an avalanche of work. You try to sit down to complete your impending tasks but alas – your stress is about to go up by a considerable amount due to a completely unresponsive mouse. While we can’t help you with your deadlines, we

can offer some advice with regards to dealing with the defective mouse.

In all probability, the erratic behaviour or unresponsiveness exhibited by your mouse could be attributed to grit and grime. An accumulation of dirt on the mousing surface hinders its sensitivity. If that is the case, here is the route you need to follow to keep your mouse squeaky clean…

  1. Firstly, turn off your mouse and unplug it if it is not a wireless peripheral.
  1. Then turn it over with the base facing you.
  1. You should use an alcohol dipped earbud or cotton swabs and wipe the mouse. Then target the “rubber feet”. Those portions easily attract dirt through days of use. Check to see ifno excess fluid drips into the mouse.
  1. You should then take a toothpick and pick out the remaining grit that is left on the rubber feet. Ensure that you are gentle when you do this to avoid the risk of damaging the surface.
  1. Then focus on the ‘eye’ of the mouse. Get into the groove of the eye without exerting too much of pressure as it could cause scratches which will eventually force the shield to shatter.
  1. After that, soak an old cotton cloth in water and dab off the rest of the mouse. You should then use a hair dryer to dry the mouse. Alternatively, leave it to dry in a sunny spot.
  1. Thereafter, turn the mouse upside down and clean the grooves on top of the mouse, still taking heed not to press too hard when doing so.
  1. Finally, give the mouse one more wipe. This peripheral should now be spick and span. Your mouse is bound to get dirty if you use it often so try to clean it every few weeks or so.
